Escape to Miami

Three Hours from the Cold to the Caribbean

JFK to Miami is 3 hours. By the afternoon, you are on the deck of a private yacht watching turquoise water stretch to the horizon. The Northeast can wait.

From New York, Boston, Washington DC

Leave the Crowds Behind

If you live in the Northeast, winter is not an abstract concept — it is a daily negotiation with the elements. In New York, the wind tunnels between buildings on Sixth Avenue and cuts through anything you are wearing. In Boston, the snow piles up in February until the sidewalks narrow to single-file paths. In DC, the gray overcast settles in like a ceiling you cannot escape. You learn to endure it, but endurance is not the same as living.

The Northeast corridor has one advantage that most people underestimate: proximity to Miami. JFK, Newark, LaGuardia, Logan, Reagan — all of them have direct flights to Miami International that clock in under three hours. You can leave your apartment in Manhattan at 7 AM, clear security at JFK by 8:30, and be standing on a yacht dock in Miami by noon. By 1 PM, you are cruising Biscayne Bay with the sun on your face. By the next morning, you could be anchored in the Bahamas.

This is not a hypothetical vacation that requires two weeks of planning and a month of PTO. A long weekend — Thursday through Sunday — is enough to fly south, board a yacht, cross to Bimini, spend two nights on the water, and fly home Sunday evening. You return to the cold, but you return rested, tan, and with the kind of clarity that only open water and warm air can provide.

Why Miami

The Water is Calling

Miami is the natural gateway between the Northeast and the Caribbean. It sits at the tip of the continent, 50 nautical miles from the nearest Bahamian island. The infrastructure is built for exactly this kind of trip — the airport handles more Northeast traffic than almost any route in the country, the marinas are minutes from the terminal, and the Bahamas crossing is one of the most well-traveled yacht passages in the Atlantic.

The Bahamas themselves offer something no other destination at this distance can match. Bimini — the closest island — has turquoise shallow water so clear you can see the bottom at 20 feet. The beaches are uncrowded. The pace is slow. And because it is a short crossing from Miami, you do not lose a full day traveling to get there. You spend your time on the water, on the beach, and on the islands — not in transit.

For groups coming from the Northeast, we handle every detail from the moment you arrive in Miami. Airport pickup coordination, provisioning, Bahamas customs clearance, and a full crew that knows these waters intimately. You step off the plane and onto the yacht. We take care of the rest.

Common Questions

Escape Northeast Winter — Bahamas Yacht Vacation — FAQ

How quickly can I get from NYC to a yacht in Miami?

A direct flight from JFK or Newark to Miami is approximately 3 hours. From the airport to our marina departure point is about 30 minutes. With an early morning flight, you could realistically be on a yacht by early afternoon the same day.

Is a long weekend enough for a Bahamas yacht trip?

Yes. A 3-day / 2-night Bahamas Weekend Getaway is designed for exactly this. Depart Miami Friday, spend two days in Bimini, return Sunday in time for an evening flight home. It is the most efficient way to experience the Bahamas without burning a full week of vacation.

Do you help with logistics beyond the yacht?

We can coordinate airport pickup, provisioning (food and drinks loaded before you arrive), and Bahamas customs clearance. Our goal is to make the transition from plane to yacht as seamless as possible.

What is the best time for Northeast residents to visit?

January through March is the sweet spot. Miami weather is at its best (mid-70s, low humidity, calm seas), and the Bahamas water is warm and clear. It also coincides with the worst of the Northeast winter, making the contrast even more dramatic.

How far is Bimini from Miami?

Bimini is approximately 50 nautical miles east of Miami — about a 2.5-hour crossing on most of our vessels. It is the closest Bahamian island to the US mainland, making it the most accessible Caribbean-style destination for a short trip.
