Miami to Bimini — The Journey Begins

Depart from Miami marina in the morning. The Gulf Stream crossing to Bimini takes approximately 2.5 hours — keep an eye out for dolphins riding the bow wake. Clear Bahamian customs in Alice Town, then anchor in the turquoise shallows off the western shore. Spend the afternoon swimming, beach combing, and settling into island time. Dinner on board or at one of Bimini's waterfront restaurants.

  • Gulf Stream crossing with potential dolphin and sea turtle sightings
  • Bahamas customs clearance handled seamlessly
  • First swim in Bimini's crystal-clear turquoise water
  • Sunset dinner on board or at a Bimini waterfront spot
2

Bimini — Full Day of Exploration

Wake up anchored in Bimini. Spend the day exploring the island at your own pace. Snorkel the reef system off the western coast, dive the SS Sapona (a concrete-hulled shipwreck from 1926 in shallow water), or visit the Healing Hole — a natural mineral spring in the mangroves. Afternoon on the beach. Fresh conch salad from a local stand. The pace is slow and intentional.

  • SS Sapona shipwreck snorkeling (visible above and below water)
  • Bimini Road — a mysterious underwater rock formation
  • The Healing Hole mineral spring in the mangroves
  • Fresh Bahamian conch salad and cracked lobster on shore
3

Bimini to Berry Islands

Depart Bimini after breakfast and cruise southeast toward the Berry Islands, a chain of 30 small cays with some of the most secluded anchorages in the Bahamas. Anchor at Great Harbour Cay — a long, curved beach with powder sand and almost no one on it. Afternoon snorkeling on the shallow reef, or try your hand at deep-sea fishing in the deep water channels between the islands.

  • Great Harbour Cay — miles of pristine, uncrowded beach
  • Deep-sea fishing in the Tongue of the Ocean channel
  • Shallow reef snorkeling in crystal-clear water
  • Secluded anchorage with no other vessels in sight
4

Berry Islands to Nassau

Cruise from the Berry Islands to Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Nassau offers a change of pace — provisioning for the next leg of the trip, exploring the historic downtown, visiting the fish fry at Arawak Cay, or checking out the famous Atlantis resort on Paradise Island. Dock or anchor depending on your preference.

  • Historic Nassau downtown and Queen's Staircase
  • Arawak Cay fish fry — authentic Bahamian street food
  • Provisioning for the Exuma leg of the journey
  • Optional: Atlantis resort and Paradise Island
5

Nassau to the Exuma Cays

Depart Nassau and head south into the Exuma Cays — a 365-island chain stretching over 100 miles. The water here is a shade of blue-green that defies description. Anchor near Warderick Wells in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, a protected marine reserve with incredible visibility and healthy reef systems. Snorkeling here is among the best in the Caribbean.

  • Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park (marine protected area)
  • Some of the clearest water in the Western Hemisphere
  • Healthy coral reefs with abundant marine life
  • Warderick Wells — iconic sandbars and tidal flats
6

Swimming Pigs and Thunderball Grotto

The day everyone remembers. Visit Big Major Cay to swim with the famous Swimming Pigs — a colony of pigs that wade into the shallows to greet visiting boats. Then cruise to Thunderball Grotto near Staniel Cay — an underwater cave made famous by a James Bond film. Snorkel through the grotto as sunlight pierces through openings in the rock ceiling. Afternoon at Compass Cay to swim with nurse sharks.

  • Swimming Pigs at Big Major Cay
  • Thunderball Grotto snorkeling (best at low tide)
  • Nurse shark swimming at Compass Cay
  • Staniel Cay Yacht Club — lunch and provisions
7

Return to Miami

Begin the return journey to Miami. Depending on weather and the group's preference, the return route may include a stop in Nassau or Bimini for a final swim before the crossing. Cross the Gulf Stream in the afternoon and arrive back at the Miami marina by evening. Customs clearance handled upon return.

  • Final morning swim in Bahamian turquoise water
  • Scenic return crossing of the Gulf Stream
  • US customs clearance handled by your captain
  • Evening arrival back in Miami

Every package is customizable. Your captain adjusts the itinerary based on weather, conditions, and your preferences.

Common Questions

7-Day Bahamas Island Hopping by Yacht — FAQ

What size group is best for a 7-day Bahamas charter?

Groups of 4-10 are ideal for a 7-day charter. USCG regulations allow up to 13 guests per vessel. For a week-long trip, having enough cabin space for comfortable sleeping is important — our yachts (50-70 feet) accommodate 4-8 guests in cabins, while super yachts (80-105 feet) accommodate larger groups.

What do we eat for a week on a yacht?

You have several options. BYOB and bring your own food (we provision before departure). Add a private chef who prepares all meals on board. Or combine self-provisioning with shore-side meals at restaurants in Bimini, Nassau, and Staniel Cay. Most 7-day groups opt for the chef add-on — it simplifies everything.

Is the itinerary fixed or flexible?

The itinerary is fully flexible. The route described is a recommended sample based on ideal conditions. Your captain adjusts daily based on weather, sea state, and your group's preferences. Want to spend an extra day in Exuma? Skip Nassau? Linger in the Berry Islands? Just say the word.

Do we sleep on the yacht every night?

Yes, unless you prefer otherwise. Our yachts and super yachts have air-conditioned cabins with proper beds, fresh linens, and private or shared bathrooms with freshwater showers. Sleeping on a yacht anchored in a quiet Bahamian cove is one of the highlights of the trip.

What happens if the weather turns bad?

Your captain monitors weather continuously and adjusts the route to find the best conditions. If a front moves through, we shelter in a protected anchorage and wait it out — the Bahamas have many calm harbors. In the rare event of a tropical weather system, we modify the itinerary or return to Miami early for safety. Safety is never compromised.
